How to buy earrings online

Earrings are probably the oldest forms of precious jewelry and were first designed by ancient cultures such as the Egyptians.

Of all the forms of modern jewelry, none is as popular as earrings which are manufactured in three basic styles:

	Studs. These were manufactured originally with either a metal ball, a diamond, a gemstone or a pearl fixed to a wire ear post (which fitted through the hole in the ear) and a system for holding the stud in place. Over the years designs with various solid shapes have evolved which are made from platinum, gold and silver. Small diamonds or gemstones have also been incorporated into these designs.
	Hoops and huggies. The difference between a hoop and a huggie is that a hoop can range in diameter and size from a small dainty hoop to large hoops quarter of an inch thick (6mm) and over one inch (2.54cm)in diameter. A huggie, on the other hand tends to be a wide hoop of small diameter that looks like a band of metal hugging the ear. Both hoops and huggies are made from platinum, gold and silver and frequently feature diamonds and gemstones.
	Dangles. These are also known as drop earrings and are manufactured in a wide variety of designs from a single drop made from a narrow bar of metal to a multistrand drop that dangles in front and behind the ear. Dangles are frequently made in sets with matching bracelets or necklaces and are manufactured from platinum, gold and silver with inlaid diamonds and gemstones.

When choosing diamond and gemstone earrings, the four C's selection criteria are just as important as when choosing a ring.

Also consider that studs look good on a petite woman but look lost on a tall woman, conversly long dangly earrings emphasize a petite woman's small stature but look good on a tall woman.
